It was in the year 1964 that her husband, a chicken farm operator that had 145 acres of it for 15 years, decided that he needed a change in his line of work and also asked his wife if she can also find ways to generate income. A specialist in electronics instrumentation at the local research lab was the next job he assumed. On the other hand, his wife worked part time for the blood processing laboratory of the university while she went to school.
She shares that while many people ask her if her situation was difficult, she can honestly say that she has never found problems with being a mother in a large family alongside studying. Of course, we only scraped by and struggled so much with managing out money. But everybody pitched in, I didn't have to ask. Bill has always been a very active father, and the children all helped. Proud of achieving a 3 point 2 average during premed, this driven lady enrolled herself as a graduate student in biology and wasted no time as she waited to get her medical school acceptance. She believes that it is not only her that was enriched by medical school but their entire family as well. One of our daughters shared that some people would ask her how it feels to have mother who is not at home most of the time. She told the one who asked her that question that they see her not just as a mother but as an individual. The only remaining children are 2, out of 10. And these are none other than their two youngest sons, one 17 who just graduated high school while the younger one at 14 years of age is still in junior high. But the eldest among their children, a son aged 29 lives within their area and manages his own business, a local motorcycle supply store. When asked on her thoughts on her inspiring medical education, this phenomenal doctor shares that the secret is learning to handle her physician responsibilities and balancing it with who she is as a woman. She says that it was personal enrichment and a duty she had to fulfill and because of this, she is triumphant.
